Doctoral Employees Health Benefits

After heightened union and student agitation, New York State agreed to offer the Student Employee Health Plan coverage to CUNY doctoral student employees under the same terms as SUNY graduate employees already enjoyed. The plan, while not perfect, is comprehensive and offers family as well as individual coverage at relatively low cost to the student.

In 2008, the CUNY Board of Trustees approved CUNY’s participation in the State’s plan, and PSC and CUNY signed a Letter of Agreement memorializing the agreement to that effect, including specifying the represented CUNY titles in which a doctoral student may be working.
