This Week in the PSC

This Week in the PSC (03.02.20): Declaring a Budget Emergency at CUNY

Mar 04, 2020

Budget Emergency Day, March 12
Wear #RedforEd and Take Action

The budget emergency at CUNY is sabotaging our students, our work, our health, our future. It’s time we transferred the crisis to Albany by taking action together. Everyone can do something on March 12 to stop the starvation of CUNY. Tell us here that you will wear #redfored and take at least one action on Thursday, March 12 to demand an end to the budget crisis. You can join a protest on your campus, post a #redfored selfie, call or email your legislators, or mobilize for a rally outside a legislator’s district office. The state budget will be decided by April 1. This is the time to act!

Presidential Endorsement
Tell us what you think.

For the first time, the PSC’s national affiliate, the AFT, has opened the door for local unions to make endorsements in the primaries. On March 19, the PSC Delegate Assembly will consider a dual endorsement of two candidates in the April 28 NYS Democratic Primary: Senator Bernie Sanders and Senator Elizabeth Warren. What position do you think the PSC should take? Let us know by responding here.

Get Counted NYC

New Yorkers can begin completing the census online, by phone or by mail starting March 12. The PSC is partnering with NYC, CUNY and with unions from across the city to get the word out. The more New Yorkers who complete the census, the more funding our communities receive for public education, housing, roads and bridges, and so much more. The PSC urges you to respond to the census and to take part in any campus activities to make sure all students and staff are counted. Nearly 600,000 people walk through our doors regularly. CUNY alone could make a major difference in the City’s response rate. For more information about the U.S. Census and to apply for part-time or full-time work visit 2020Census.gov.
