The PSC proudly endorses the global school walkout for climate change on Friday, September 20.We salute the students throughout the world who are leading the movement on this most urgent of issues. “Our house is on fire; let’s act like it.” PSC members are urged to support the movement in whatever ways you can without interfering with fulfillment of your normal work responsibilities: incorporate material about climate change into your teaching where appropriate, offer students logistical support, or join the walkout during your lunch hour.

HOSTOS CLIP (CUNY Language Immersion Program) confronts drastic budget cuts, depriving many immigrant students a shot at a college education and robbing instructors of their jobs.

CUNY’s budget request hasn’t been released—weeks after it’s usually made public. The trustees need to know that we’re watching and ready to act. Come to demand the fully funded contract we deserve, and be prepared to support PSC’s elected leadership as they engage in a protest action.

Students are leading the nationwide March for Our Lives on Saturday, March 24, to demand legislation that will protect children, students and others from mass murder and gun violence. Student survivors of the mass murder in Parkland have changed the national conversation on gun control. They have organized a march in Washington, and now similar marches are being organized throughout the country. Many PSC members and CUNY students are expected to attend the Washington march, and the PSC will organize a contingent for the march in New York City. Email PSC Organizing Director Deirdre Brill if you plan to attend. For the NYC march, we will meet at W. 74th St. and Central Park West at 10 AM on Saturday, March 24.

PSC is working with the Strong Economy for All coalition to reinstate New York’s Stock Transfer Tax. It’s a way to ensure that the brokers and large banks that benefit most from the new federal tax law pay their fair share in New York. The State currently rebates $14 billion a year in Stock Transfer Taxes to brokers. A negligible tax on high-dollar and high-frequency trades would mean $5.5 billion per year for affordable housing, healthcare and quality Kindergarten - CUNY public education.
