The Crisis in Health Care. Third in the Series: Health Care Privatization and the Single-Payer Response

A pre-DA program organized the by the PSC Task Force on Healthcare Reform and the Social Safety Net Committee

We in PSC believe that access to health care is a basic human right. At previous sessions, we've discussed our union's experience with health benefits provided by our employer through private insurance companies. Workers and their families across the United States find that our reliance on private insurance companies cannot assure the affordability, universality, or equity in health care. Single payer government-funded health care, modeled on the successes of the federal Medicare program but eliminating its defects, has been proposed nationally, in Medicare for All legislation, and for New York State in the New York Health Act. We will show how this legislation will work and why it is the answer to the profound defects in the way we currently pay for health care.

Speaker: Len Rodberg. Emeritus Professor and former chair of the Department of Urban Studies at Queens College. Board member of Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP). Consultant for the New York Health Act.
