The PSC is
committed to solidarity, a core value and practice of the labor
movement. Solidarity means support for working people in their labor
unions, community organizations, and coalitions around specific,
vital interests (e.g. housing, health care, environment).
Solidarity work
builds the power of the PSC. As we participate in the struggles of
co-workers, neighbors, students and engaged citizens, we establish
working relations which can be called upon for our own campaign
(e.g. contract, budget, organizing).
The PSC has a
strong focus on union strength through member participation. Our
members already have ties and involvement in labor, community,
political, and civic organizations. We want to tap into and draw on
these already established relations, to connect PSC work and our
members interests, connections, and resources.
The
Solidarity Committee meets monthly (see calendar). Co-chairs are
Penny Lewis, Jim Perlstein, and John Hyland. Alex Vitale is the
Committee’s representative to the PSC’s Committee of Committees.
