Sample Letter to State Legislator

Note:  Since this is a district organizing campaign, letters should be sent to the representative’s local office, and followed up with a phone call and office visit. 

Obviously, what follows is meant as a suggestion rather than a rigid template.

Dear Senator (or Assemblywoman, or Assemblyman)________ 

I am writing to you as a constituent and as a (your title) at (your unit), one of ____ CUNY employees in your district.  The City University desperately needs your help to restore working conditions, ensure quality education and protect access.  

Please support the PSC budget for the University which asks an increase this year of one hundred and forty million dollars.  This amount is the minimum needed to restore the full time faculty which has been cut by 50 per cent since 1974, to provide decent working conditions, and to address the needs of part time faculty and staff, who have been badly underpaid for decades.
