First Salary Increase Now in Effect

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

A salary increase went into effect on June 1, 2011 for all bargaining unit members who received less than a 2% increase in the previous 12 months. The amount of the increase is 2% or whatever is necessary to bring the employee up to 2% for the year. There is no increase for those who already received an increase of 2% or more. The 2% increase is worth at least $0.27/hour because the union negotiated a slightly larger percentage increase for the lowest paid workers. This increase should appear in the paycheck you received on 6/15/11. Please check your paycheck to make sure that you received the increase to which you are entitled. Note that an increase in the employee contribution to the health insurance premium was also implemented on 6/1/11. The union fought very hard to ensure that people would not be hit with an increase in the cost of health insurance before receiving a salary increase. The employee contribution to health insurance is increasing from 11% to 13% of the premium. That is an increase of approximately $13 per month for an individual, $27 per month for husband/wife coverage, and $39 per month for family coverage.
