CAMPAIGNS:

◄SUPPORT NYS LEGISLATION FOR ADJUNCT  Unemployment Insurance.
Adjunct faculty are not paid between semesters.  CUNY sends letters of reappointment to adjuncts, but makes clear their courses are contingent on sufficient enrollment, funding, and the continuation of the program. CUNY often cancels classes at the last minute, leaving adjuncts with less, or no, income. But CUNY uses those letters to argue that adjuncts are ineligible for unemployment benefits under the law, because they have "reasonable assurance" of work in the coming semester. Legislation pending before the NYS legislature would ensure reasonable access to unemployment insurance for contingent faculty.  Click here  to send a letter to your state legislators urging passage and here for more information.

◄BE ONE OF THE MILLION SIGNATORIES IN SUPPORT OF LABOR'S RIGHTS.  The American Federation of Teachers (AFT, our parent union) has announced a campaign to collect one million signatures on a petition calling on the new president and Congress to pass the federal Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA). EFCA would reform our national labor law to make it easier for workers to form unions. Learn more by clicking here.   And click the image to the left to go to the online petition.

Affordable Housing Survey—Fill It Out!  The PSC and TIAA-CREF are discussing developing affordable housing options for PSC members.  Please participate in the union’s preliminary survey, designed to assess the demand for affordable housing in the metropolitan area among the faculty and professional staff.
