DECEMBER RETIREE CHAPTER MEETING. Just Deserts: Food Politics and Environmental Justice.
Craig Willingham joined the CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute as Deputy Director in late 2016. Prior to that Craig worked for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. At DOHMH, Craig played a key role in working with supermarkets, bodegas, farmers markets and other food retail outlets to expand access to healthy affordable food in New York City neighborhoods.
Nick Freudenberg is Distinguished Professor of Public Health at the CUNY School of Public Health and the director of the CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute. For the last 35 years, he has worked with community groups, churches, social movements, government agencies and community residents to develop, implement and evaluate policies and programs that promote health and reduce inequalities in health.
Nancy Romer, professor emerita, Brooklyn College, has been a labor, food and climate activist and is presently active on the PSC Environmental Justice Working Group. She was founder of the Brooklyn Food Coalition.
