Women's Committee

The PSC Women’s Committee of the Professional Staff Congress/CUNY is committed to the empowerment of every woman at CUNY and to identify sexism in all its forms within CUNY and the PSC. We strive to enhance the status of women on the faculty and staff of CUNY by ensuring that their concerns are addressed by the Professional Staff Congress in collective bargaining and academic governance. Our goal is to create an atmosphere within the union and CUNY that fosters women’s full participation in the union and promotes women in positions of leadership within the PSC and CUNY as well as building solidarity between constituencies. We are dedicated to reaching out to women across borders and to economic boundaries and to build labor-community coalitions whose goals are to build a diverse community that cuts across race, ethnicity, sexuality, class, and job categories and provides equal access to quality education for all women.

Women's Committee Accomplishments:

  • Annual event for Women’s History Month
  • Work to obtain pregnancy leave for faculty
  • Support for and attendance at UALE Summer School for Union Women
  • Support of work credit for college attendance of women on welfare
  • Creation and contribution to PSC women listserv

Women's Committee has monthly meetings, usually on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. Currently, there is a hiatus in meetings due to the bargaining team commitments of several key members.
