Committee for Part-Time Personnel

The Committee for the Part-time Instructional Staff is a standing committee of the Delegate Assembly. It is responsible for the consideration of problems and the recommendations of policies related to the part-time instructional staff. The chairperson of this committee shall be the Vice President for the Part-Time Instructional Staff.

In addition to committee members, many other part-time personnel attend the open, monthly “First Friday” meetings (4 p.m. PSC office, 16th floor) where we have open discussions about issues affecting part-timers, particularly adjuncts, graduate employees, CLIP and other Continuing Education teachers.

Our meetings provide the opportunity to obtain information and updates about various projects: FACE legislation, FUSE program, unemployment legislation, health insurance efforts, conversion lines, the adjunct/CET professional development fund, waivers, etc.

It is also the venue for part-timers to formulate and discuss contract demands and issues to bring to the officers, Executive Committee, and Delegate Assembly.

CUNY took an important first step at the 9/26/11 meeting of its Board of Trustees by announcing that it would add adjunct healthcare to its budget request. But that is only a first step -- and all the more reason to keep pressure on the university to push aggressively for this funding.

If you are an adjunct who has not yet joined the New York City Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS), please fill out an enrollment form immediately.
