Below is a listing of useful websites on issues of peace and justice.  The listing includes advocacy, information, research and political sites.  Sites cover a range of political, social and economic views.  Listing does not imply endorsement by the PSC

ACADEMIC FREEDOM AND NATIONAL SECURITY

  • The Academic Freedom Committee of the PSC has put together list of annotated links focusing on issues of academic freedom and constitutional liberties in the post 9/11/01 period.  Click here to go to these annotated links.

ANTI WAR ORGANIZATIONS

  • Answer is an acronym for Act Now to Stop the War and End Racism.
  • United For Peace and Justice "is a coalition of more than 650 local and national groups throughout the United States who have joined together to oppose our government's policy of permanent warfare and empire-building."
  • U.S. Labor Against the War (USLAW). "In the months preceding the invasion of Iraq, hundreds of local, state and national unions, central labor councils and other labor organizations took official positions opposing war on Iraq. This led to the founding, on January 11 in Chicago, of U.S. Labor Against War (USLAW)."

BRING THE TROOPS HOME

  • Bring Them Home Now! "is a campaign of military families, veterans, active duty personnel, reservists and others opposed to the ongoing war in Iraq and galvanized to action by George W. Bush's inane and reckless challenge to armed Iraqis resisting occupation to 'Bring 'em on.'"
  • Citizen Soldieris a general GI/veterans rights and advocacy group that has recently focused on legal defense and public advocacy for soldiers refusing to serve in the Persian Gulf.
  • Military Families Speak Out is an organization of people who are opposed to war in Iraq and who have relatives or loved ones in the military. We were formed in November of 2002 and have contacts with military families throughout the United States, and in other countries around the world.
  • Veterans for Peace includes men and women veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, other conflicts and peacetime veterans. "Our collective experience tells us wars are easy to start and hard to stop and that those hurt are often the innocent. Thus, other means of problem solving are necessary."
  • Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW) is a national veterans' organization that was founded in New York City in 1967 after six Vietnam vets marched together in a peace demonstration. "We will do all we can to prevent another generation from being put through a similar tragedy and we will continue to demand dignity and respect for veterans of all eras."

ECONOMIC IMPACT OF THE WAR

  • Cost of War is a second-by-second compilation (on a running counter) of escalating war costs together with comparisons of what this money would buy in five categories: Pre-school, Kids Health, Public Education, College Scholarships and Public Housing.

EDUCATORS TO STOP THE WAR

AFT PEACE AND JUSTICE CAUCUS

  • The AFT Peace and Justice Caucus was formed at the 2006 AFT convention in Boston.  It's initial work at the convention "focused on building an anti-war movement in the AFT, advocating for the AFT to play a role in promoting progressive immigration policies and supporting a special order of business at the convention in defense of striking teachers in Oaxaca, Mexico."
