HEARINGS
ON STUDENT COMPLAINT |
Jan. 22, 2006 Board of Trustees Hearing on Crucial Academic Freedom Issues On Monday, January 29, the CUNY Board of Trustees passed resolutions on (1) a student complaint procedure and (2) computer use policy. The PSC Delegate Assembly had previously passed resolutions in opposition to both policies, which have grave implications for academic freedom. (Click here for the PSC DA resolution on the student complaint policy and here for the PSC DA resolution on computer use policy.) On Monday, January 22, the Board of Trustees held five hours of hearings on both the policies that it passed a week later. With one exception, every faculty member who testified spoke against the proposed student complaint policy. Both the PSC and University Faculty Senate were on record against the policy. After the hearing, the Board made some changes in the student complaint policy. (See the press coverage and PSC statement below for more on the final version of these resolutions passed by the BOT on January 29th).
