Dear PSC Activists:
Many members of the PSC have asked how they can help to rebuild New
Orleans. In response, PSC leadership has helped persuade the
AFT to develop a Union Summer Program dedicated to revitalizing New
Orleans. Members of the union are invited through this program
to participate in specific community and union-building projects.
Assignments will include working with Habitat for Humanity and Acorn
and will range from house-gutting to phone banking, tutoring and
house calls to potential union members.
The work periods and project dates for Union Summer are described in
the attached flyer. Importantly, AFT sponsorship of the work
ensures that the costs of airfare, housing expenses and meal
stipends will be covered. If you volunteer, the AFT will be in
touch with you directly, and specific assignments will be worked out
closer to the start of the program.
If you are interested in spending 2 weeks helping rebuild New
Orleans with union colleagues, click
